The Month Formerly Known as November (2008!)
Raising funds and awareness for men's health.
As we are now all aware, the month that was formerly known as November has been renamed Movember and dedicated to growing moustaches, raising funds and awareness for men's health.
As part of the Handlebar Club's commitment to this cause, your Club President and your Club Secretary gallantly attended the Movember Gala party as 'celebrity' judges with allegedly an expert knowledge of the 'Mo'.
Needless to say it was extremely hard work, mingling with the crowds (mostly near the bar) and deciding on the 'Ultimate Mo'. However we made our top ten choices and then left it to the baying mob to shout for the winner. The winner on the night strangely didn't win for his rather average 'hirsute appendage of the upper lip' but, I suspect, for the very far from average 'moustache' shaved and sculpted from his chest hair – a terrifying sight!
We were also asked by Movember to judge the overall global winner - hurrah! Visions of a star-studded Gala party on a beautiful Hawaiian beach – no such luck, just an email with some photos of moustachioed blokes, ah well.
This fantastic event raised a whopping £12,035,787 worldwide and £1,943,268 in the UK alone.
